Our Impact

More Than Numbers —
Real Lives Changed

Behind every statistic is a person. A family that navigated a crisis and came out the other side. A senior who no longer faces their days alone. A young person who found their footing because someone invested in them.

Wellspring's impact in New Germany and Lunenburg County is measured most accurately not in numbers, but in stories. Families who accessed our Food Pantry during periods of hardship and rebuilt their stability. Seniors who told us a volunteer visit was the highlight of their week. Youth who developed confidence and skills they carry forward into adulthood.

These are the outcomes we live for — and the reason we keep showing up, year after year, with the same commitment and the same conviction that this work matters.

Where We Work

Reaching Rural Nova Scotia

Our programs serve New Germany and extend across the broader rural landscape of Lunenburg County.

Understanding Rural Need

Rural communities like New Germany face a distinctive combination of challenges. Geographic isolation means services are often far away. A smaller tax base limits what local governments can provide. Seasonal employment creates cycles of hardship that urban residents rarely experience. And the close-knit nature of rural communities — while a genuine strength — can also make it harder to ask for help.

Wellspring was designed with this reality in mind. We bring services to where people live, operate with deep local knowledge and relationships, and maintain the kind of personal, trusted presence that is essential in a rural context.

Our reach extends well beyond the village of New Germany itself — into the farms, acreages, and smaller communities that make up rural Lunenburg County. We are committed to ensuring that geographic distance is never a barrier to accessing care and support.

The People Behind the Work

Our Volunteers

Wellspring's programs are powered by the generosity of community members who give their time and talents in service to their neighbours.

More Than Helpers — Community Builders

Our volunteers are the heart of Wellspring. Without their weekly commitment — packing food hampers, making senior visits, mentoring youth, and keeping our programs running — none of what we do would be possible.

What motivates our volunteers? Not obligation, but genuine care. Many of our volunteers have lived in this community their entire lives and carry a deep investment in its wellbeing. Others are newer to the area and have found in Wellspring a way to become truly part of their community. All of them share the conviction that their effort matters.

The bonds formed through volunteering — between volunteers and those they serve, and among volunteers themselves — are one of the most powerful outcomes of Wellspring's work. Community is built through encounter, and every volunteer shift is an encounter that strengthens our collective fabric.
